ZEITGENÖSSISCHE MENAGERIE VISUELLER PHILOSOPH_INNEN / CONTEMPORARY MENAGERIE OF VISUAL PHILOSOPHERS

06.09–05.10.2014    Monat Kunst Halberstadt / Art Month Halberstadt

For September 2014, ilka Leukefeld organised and curated Contemporary Menagerie of Visual Philosophers – the first art biennale in Halberstadt, Germany, in cooperation with the non-profit making art organisation Monat Kunst Halberstadt (MKH).

The concept of this inaugural event revolved around the idea of the artist as a visionary, someone whose philosophical inquiries often focus the spotlight of public attention on everyday issues. By juxtaposing the works of 10 international contemporary artists, by creating a menagerie where artists have the freedom to express their visions, MKH aimed to encourage the human urge for discovery and reflect the nature of our culture and our times.

The exhibitions were located throughout the town, using empty buildings and shops as well as existing exhibition spaces. The participating artists were: Atelier FraSe (Francesco Gorni and Serena Montesissa), Justine Blau, Marsha Dunstan, Pippa Gatty, Dean Kenning, Alexander Kluge, Guido Lanteri-Laura, ilka Leukefeld, Hans Scheib and Upper Bleistein (Laura Eschweiler, Judith Leinen and Lisa Vogel).
