Leukefeld’s studio is located next door to the John Cage Organ Art Project at the Burchardikloster (Kloster 1, 38820 Halberstadt), where she is currently working on a project made possible by a scholarship awarded by the Kunststiftung Sachsen-Anhalt and the Klosterbergische Stiftung.

The John Cage Organ Project has acquired Leukefeld’s painting Herr Hoffmann liebt das blaue Mädchen (die Liebesgeschichte eines Hausmeisters und der Heizanlage) / Mr Hoffmann loves the blue girl (the love story of a caretaker and his heating-system). The Project has presented the work to Herr Hoffmann himself.

At the Venice Biennale

ilka Leukefeld Venice Biennale

ilka Leukefeld was an Artist-Investigator for the Press Room project at the 56th Venice Biennale 11-13 August, 2015. Press Room developed a parallel dialogue alongside the Creative Time Summit by establishing a ‘pirate press’ to investigate news creation through expanded acts of visual reportage. It was structured around three public breakfast ‘press briefings’ held at the Wales in Venice  venue.

“My response to three breakfast briefings took the form of three drawings (l-r, above): DAY 1 –  #CesarePietroiusti – Lo senti il vento? DAY 2 – #MiriamGhani – Can a biennale enact politics? DAY3 – #CharlesGaines – Political art is art that attempts to link the personal and subjective with the social.

“I recycled sheets of paper from the May Press Room in Venice sessions to make the drawings, using a felt-tip pen instead of the usual ink.”
Participating artists in Venice included Pippa Koszerek, Jane Lawson, Amy Stevenson, Maurice Carlin and Robert Frankle; plus many other artists contributed via Facebook and Twitter.
